Profiles of Major Greek Gods and Goddesses

Hestia

Hestia is the first born Olympian. Hestia means hearth or fireside. She is the eldest child of Kronos and Rhea but the other five think of her as the youngest because she came out of Kronos stomach last. She is the Greek goddess of the hearth, home, the right ordering of domesticity and family. She has always been giving sacrifices first because the family around the hearth has to thank her for gifting them with family and home. now i'm feeling like some farming.

Features: Hestia usually appears as a 13 year-old girl with a brown cloak and light brown hair and a gentle fire in her eyes (literally).
Symbol: Donkey, crane, fire, flames and pig

Demeter
Demeter was the second born olympian. Demeter was one of the quiet goddesses. She always tried to stay away from her "gross" brothers who wanted to marry her because she didn't want any of it. She liked being herself and wandering the corn fields and making sure it was all working out. But eventually Zeus found her. She tried to escape so she turned into a cow and hid in a herd. But she forgot Zeus could do that too. He turned into a bull and cornered her. Basically what ended up happening was that Demeter ended up pregnant. That's how Persephone got into her life. A lot of the time the greeks would underestimate her and she would bite back. When Hades stole her daughter Persephone, she stopped all the crops from growing and the mortals starved. Just goes to show not to underestimate her but eventually Hades agreed to let Persephone spend half the year withHades and half with her. Enough about cereal I think I want a partner in marriage.

Features: Green or gold dresses with dark hair.
Symbols: Torch, Corn plant
Roman name: Ceres

Hera

She is the third born Olympian. Hera is the Goddess of Marriage, which is funny because she is married to a guy who has the most affairs in the Olympian family, Zeus. She is queen of the gods and hates nearly all demigod heroes. Her least favourite in history is the mighty Heracles (Hercules). She causes a lot of trouble to her husbands children but if you asked me she shouldn't be angry at them, she should be mad at her husband. Also once she and some other gods tried to overthrow Zeus so that the Olympian council would be equal. And now we go from marriage to death.

Features:
Usually appears as a beautiful middle
aged woman with a greek dress and silver crown. She had dark hair and often turned into a bird.
Symbols: Pomegranate, Cow and Peacock.
Roman Name: Juno

Hades:
The first born male Olympian and fourth youngest of the six. Once he and his brothers Poseidon and Zeus killed their father Kronos, they drew lot's to see who got what place. Zeus got the sky, Poseidon the sea and Hades got the "worst" role. He became the god of the underworld. He was always treated as the outsider of the olympian family because the others find him creepy and dark. He stayed in Erebos (The Underworld in Greek) but soon enough that changed to Hades. He also got given the Helmet of Darkness as a gift from the Cyclopses and the hundred-handed ones so he could help defeat Kronos. He could turn into darkness and corrupt people's mind with fear with one look  Now I'll tell you the myth of how he got his wife. I told you a lot about this earlier in Demeter's chapter but I didn't tell you why she ended up staying not fully. So once she was caught by Hades he took her to his palace in the underworld and didn't let her leave. She hated him but she couldn't do anything about it. One day she was wandering around when she stumbled into his garden. She was mind blown. It was beautiful. There were millions of glowing plants and it also had all her favorites. Then she saw the pomegranate tree. That was her favorite fruit. "Would you like one ma'am" She turned around to see a minion. "Um well it sure looks delicious," Persephone said. After a while of nonstop thinking about the delicious fruit she gave in and took the ripest one. She bit into it and loved it but what she forgot is that when you eat fruit in the underworld you can't leave. Then Hades entered and he saw her eating it and said. "You realise you can't leave now". She dropped it in horrror. The Hermes arrived to tell Hades he must give her back. He said she can't because she ate the fruit. Eventually, they made and agreement that she can spend half the year with her mother Demeter and half with Hades and she eventually loved him... I think. That's a bit information about Hades for you death lovers and next up we'll have a nice time at the beach.

Features: Hades usually appears as an older man with slick black hair, pale skin and an evil smile. He has a black cloak made from souls and the helm of darkness which basically appears however you imagine it put I wouldn't advise you to imagine ponies.

Symbol: Helmet of Darkness, Cerberus, cornucopia, sceptre, narcissus.

Roman name: Pluto

Poseidon
Poseidon is the second born son of Kronos and Rhea and fifth sibling. He was always the middle child which really annoyed him. He was constantly asked "Are you as powerful as Zeus"? or "Are you as dark as Hades"? It really annoys a guy. But that's not to say he's not powerful. Poseidon was the second most powerful god of the Olympians and he was sometimes called the earthshaker. Here's a myth about him for you people. Not long after the Olympians defeated the titans, Poseidon loved Demeter. She asked him to impress her so one day he wandered along the beach thinking and as he watched the waves roll in and the sea foam retreating he thought of something. He then created horses out of sea foam but by the time he was done, his love for Demeter was gone and he loved his new creatures
