List of Egyptian Gods and Goddesses

-A-

Aah - Aah is the good of the Egyptian calendar, He lost 5 of the days to Thoth in a game of dice.

Abtu - A fish deity, who is paired with Anet. Together they swim in Ra's boat to protect and warm him from danger.

Ahti - Ahti has a body of a hippopotamus and the head of the wasp. The goddess was considered spiteful and chaotic. He was rarely worshiped by others.

Aken - A ferryman who takes dead souls to their afterlife. He is usually asleep, so the souls have to wake him up.

Aker - An earth god who protects the pathway into and out of the underworld

Amathaunta - This goddess has little information known but is believed she is associated with the sea.

Amaunet - The goddess of the north wind in Lower Egypt. One of 8 original gods.

Amenhotep - A pharaoh who is known for his amazing building and architecture skills.

Ament (Amentet, Amentit) - The hostess of the underworld. She greets souls brought into the underworld by her husband Aken.

Ammit (Ammam, Amemait, Ammut, Ahemait) - A goddess of judgement. If one's souls are judged unworthy, this Hippo, Lion and Crocodile hybrid goddess swallow's it.

Amn - A greater goddess of the underworld. Possibly the same deity as Ament. But she is invisible.

Amsit  (Imset, Imsety) - One of 4 sons of Horus who protected the mummified remains of the dead.

Amist protected jars of livers.

Amun - (Amon, Ammon, Amen) One of the 4 original gods of Egypt who through time became the chief deity of all Egyptian mythology.

Amun Ra (Amun Re, Amen Ra, Amen Re, Amon Ra, Amon Re, Ammon Ra, Ammon Re) The joinery of Amun and Ra which, later on, happens in Egyptian mythology.

Anat -  A war goddess brought to Egypt from Mesopotamia. Was also romantically linked to Set.

Andjety (Anedjti, Anezti) - The god of rebirth in the underworld. He allowed bodies to live when passed away. He is the husband of Anit.

Anet - A fish deity, who is paired with Abtu. Together they swim in Ra's boat to protect and warm him from danger.

Anhur - (Inher, Onuris) A god of creativity who is best known for slaying enemies to the Egyptian people.

Anit - Goddess of fertility, sex, war and hunting. Originally from Canaan but also worshipped by early Hebrews.

Ankhet (Ankt, Anuket) - Goddess of the Nile.

Anouke (Anuke) - An ancient Egyptian goddess who was always shown with a bow and arrow.

Anti - An ancient Egyptian god who became the patron god of ferrymen and travellers by sea.

Anubis (Anpu, Imeut, Ienpw, Inpu, Lenpw, Yinepu) - The jackal-headed god of death in early
Egyptian mythology. He holds scales that weights the weight of the dead.

Apedemak (Apademak) - A not so famous god who of the Meroitic people. He had a head of a lion and was considered the god of war.

Apep (Aapep, Apepi, Apophis) - A god of darkness who has the form of a serpent. He causes a eclipse when he sallows ssunlight

Apis (Hap, Haap, Hep, Hepi) - A bull god in Memphis. Any bull born black with a white triangle on there head was considered him reborn.

Arensnuphis (Arsnuphis, Harensnuphis, Ari-Hes-Nefer) - A lion headed god of Nubia who wore a crown of feathers. His purpose his unknown.

Aten (Aten-Ra, Aten-Re, Aton, Aton-Ra, Aton-Re) - A little-known sun god, until Pharoah Amenhotep IV decreed him to be the only god. He is also known as the sun-disc.

Atum (Atum-Ra, Atum-Re, Tem, Tum, Temu) - The creator of the world who started off as a hill and created the other gods with his semen.

Ba - A fertility god with a ram's head. Women hoping to get pregnant will call his name.

Ba-Pef - A minor Egyptian god. His name means "That Soul". Little is known about this god except he was often sad and doubtful.

Babi (Bab, Babay) - A baboon demon in the underworld. He rarely wore pants.

Banebdjetet (Banebtetet, Banebdjedet, Banebdedet, Ba-Neb-Tetet, Baneb-Djedet, Banepthysdjedet) - A Egyptian ram god from Mended. He possibly has the same deity has Ba.

Bast (Bastet, Ubastet, Ailuros) - A famous cat-headed goddess who protected Egyptians from foreign  attracts and fires.

Bat (Bata) - A fertility goddess in the form of a cow.

Benu - A sun god in a form of a golden bird. It is connected to Atum, the creator of the world.

Bes (Bisu) - An ugly, scary looking dwarf god who uses its appearance to scare off evil spirits.

Beset - Beset is a female version of Bes.

Buto - A cobra goddess who protected the pharaohs. Pharaohs who wear a cobra on their crown to invoke her protection.

Chenti-Cheti - A minor Egyptian god who took the form of a crocodile. Then later the form of a falcon.

Chenti-Irti - A minor Egyptian god of law and order. He has the body of a falcon. He may be Horus in disguise.

Cherti (Kherty) - Another ferryman of the dead. He is a man with a ram as a head.

Chontamenti (Chonti-Amentiu, Khentamenti) - A god of death in Western Egypt. He is a dog with horns who lives in the underworld.

Dedun (Dedwen) - God of wealth.

Dua - The god of toilets and sanitation.

Duamutef - One of Horus' sons. Has a head of a jackal.

Ehi (Ihu) - The Egyptian god of the sistrum a musical instrument.

Geb (Keb, Seb, Qeb) - God of the earth. When he laughs he causes earthquakes.

Ha - The god of desserts in west Egypt.

Hah (Heh, Huh, Hu) - God of infinity and formlessness.

Hapi - God of the Nile as a man, but he looks pregnant.

Hapy - One of four sons of Horus.

Har-Nedj-Hef - An incarnation of the god Horus. He protects Osiris in the underworld.

Har-Pa-Khered (Harpakhered, Har-Pa-Khruti, Harpakhruti) An incarnation of the god Horus. He is a child sitting on his mother's lap. Was invoked to scare off evil monsters.

Harmakhis (Harmatchis) - An incatnation of the god Horus. This one appears as the Ssphinx of Giza.

Haroeris (Har-Wer) - An ancient incarnation of Horus. He was considered the "Horus the Elder"

Hat-Mehit (Hatmehit, Hatmehyt, Het-Mehit, Hetmehit) - A fish goddess. Her husband is

Hathor (Heret) - The goddess of hapiness, Frolicing and Cavorting. She is also a protector of woman.

Hauhet (Hehet) - Goddess of Infinity and formlessness. She is the female version of Hah.

Hedetet - A little-knowen goddess. She is a scorpion.

Heket (Hek, Hektet, Heqat, Heget) An Egyptian goddess of childbirth.

Hemen - A little knowen falcon god.

Hemsut (Hemuset) - A goddess of fate.

Henet - A pelican headed goddess.

Heptet - A goddess who protected Osiris's body and soul in afterlife. She has the head of a snake.

Herishep -  A minor god in Northen Egypt. He has a ram's head.

Heru-Behudti - Horus in the form of the Scorching Sun.

Hez-Ur - A little-knowen baboon god.

Heka (Hike) - God of magic and magical rituals. He is the son of Atum.

Horus - The great sky god. His eyes were the sun and moon. He is the son of Isis and Osiris.

Iat - A minor god of milk, childbirth and nursing.

Ihy - God of music and dancing.

Imentet - An ancient Egyptian goddess who welcomed people into the afterlife in Western Egypt.

Imhotep (Imhetep, Immutef, Iunmutef) - A mortal became a god because he was really good at sculpture, archetecture and mathmatics.

Imiut - A god whose name means "He who is in his wrappings" may have been connected to the underworld.

Iptet - A goddess of childbirth. She has a body of a Hippo.

Isis - A very well-knowen god who is the Great Mother Goddess after giving birth to Horus.

Kebechet (Khebhut, Kabehchet) - The goddess of embalming fluid used in mummification.

Kebechsenef - One of four sons of Horus. He protects the intestines and organs of the mummified.

Kek (Kuk, Keket, Keket, Keku, Kauket.) The great unknown darkness in mythology.

Kemur - An oracular deity who is a black bull.

Ken - A goddess of love.

Khepri (Kehperi, Kheper,Kehpera, Chepri) The god of resurrection.

Khnum (Knum, Khnemu, Kemu, Knouphis, Chnum, Chnemu, Chnoumis, Chnuphis.) He makes baby's bodies out of clay and sneaks into womans homes while she is sleeping and impregnates her with it.

Khonsu (Khons, Khesu, Chons) - A young moon god who is also known as the god of time.

Kneph (Cneph) - One of the first Egyptian gods who is known to be connected to the creation of the universe.

Maat (Ma'at) - Goddess of Justice and Law.

Mafdet (Maftet) - Egyptian goddess of Protection.

Mahes (Maahes) - A lion headed god of war.

Mehen - A large snake god who coils around Ra at night.  

Mehurt (Mehturt, Mehet-Uret, Mehet-Weret) The mother of the sky. He is a cow.

Menhit - Warrior goddess with the head of a lion. The female version of Mahes.

Monthu (Mentu, Menthu, Monto, Month) - A popular war god. Mostly is seen as a falcon-headed man but can appear as a white bull with a black face.

Meret (Mert) - Goddess of Rejoicing. She is the wife of Hapy.

Meretseger (Mertseger) - A cobra-headed goddess who was dangerous and merciful. She protected the land of the kings and laid waste to grave robbers.

Meskhenet (Meskhent) - An important goddess who breathed the soul into every baby born.

Min - The god of male fertility, sexual prowess and potency. He was once called the "Cheif of Heaven"

Mnewer (Mnevis, Mer-Wer) - A sacred bull who was worshipped in Heliopolis

Mut - Mother goddess of nurturing and protecting.

Nephthys (Neb Hut, Nebthet) - Comforts people that have just passed away. Sister of Isis and Osiris.

Nef (Nehab) - A sepant god.

Nefertem (Nefer, Tem, Nefer Temu, Nefertum) - Was emerged from a blue lotus. He created mankind from his tears.

Nehebkau (Nehebkhau, Nehebu Kau) - He protects things from poisionus snake bits and scorpion stings.

Neith (Neit) - A goddess of war, hunting and wisdom. She was very wise and is possibly the mother of Ra.

Nekhbet (Nekhabed) - Patron goddess of the city Nekheb.

Neper (Nepra, Nepri) - A god of grian and corn.

Nepit - A goddess of grian and corn. Female, version of Neper.

Nun (Nu) - God of primeival and stormy waters. Was one of 8 Ogdoad of Hermopolis.

Nunet (Naunet) - Goddess of the skies above stormy waters. Her husband is Nun.

Nut (Nuit, Newet) - Goddess of the skies. One of the oldest gods.

Osiris (Ned Er Tcher, Usire) - Judge of the Dead. Former god of vegetation and fertility until he was killed by his brother and resurrected by his sister.

Petbe - God of revenge.

Ptah (Ptha) - The crafting god who covered masonry, craftsmanship, carpentry, sculpture, metalworking and shipbuilding.

Qetesh (Qadeshet, Qadesh, Qudshu) - A goddess of fertility, representing sacred ecstasy and sexual pleasure.

Ra (Re) - The great sun god. Often considered the most important deity in Egyptian mythology.

Renenet (Ernutet, Renenutet) Goddess of Prosperity. An important cobra-headed goddes associated with motherhood, the harvest and the magical properties of linen for mummification.

Renpet - goddess of youth and the spring season.

Reshep (Reshpu) - Originally known by the Syrians as Ramman, this storm god became an Egyptian war god. Associated with Min and Qadesh

Sahu - A incarnation of the constellation Orion. A star god associated with the change between night and day.

Satet (Satis, Satjit, Sati, Sates) - The Egyptian goddess who is associated with flooding the Nile River.

Sebek (Sobek, Sochet, Sobk, Sobki, Suchos) - The deification of the power of the Egyptian pharohs. He was associated with the Nile river and had the head of a crocodile.

Seker (Sokar, Sokaris, Soker) - Falcon god of death and ressurection. Shown as a mummified falcon or hawk. Associated with gods of Ptah and Osiris.

Sekhmet (Sachmet, Sachmis, Sekhet, Sakhmet) An important, multi-faceted goddess of war, healing and the dessert.

Sepa (Sep) The god who protected dead bodies from insects. Most often seen in the form of a venemous centipede.

Serket (selket, Serqet, Serquet, Selcis) The goddess protecter agaisnt poisonous animal bites and stings.

Seshat (Seesat, Seshet, Sesheta, Seshata, Safkhet) Her name means "She Who Is A Scribe". This goddess of knowledge, wisdom and writing is the record keeper of the gods.

Sesmu (Shesmu, Shezmy, Schezemu, Sezmu) A minor god of slaughter. He also embodied blood, wine, pressed oils and perfumes.

Set - (Seth, Seti, Setekh, Setakh, Setesh, Sutekh, Suty) One of the major gods, representing violence, chaos evil, storms, desserts and foreign wars. He killed his brother Osiris.

Shai (Shay) The god of gender-changing.

Shait - The feminine incarnation of Shai.

Shed - The god of Sakvation, tied to Horus in the form of "Horus the Child"

Shesmetet - An ancient Egyptian goddess from tghe land of "Punt"

Shu (Su) - A very ancient Egyptian god of air. Father of Nut and  Geb and pacifier of the winds and the earth

Sopdet (Sothis) - Goddes of the star Sirius - the brigthest in the night sky.

Sopdu (Septu, Sopedu, Sopd) - A god of war and the ssky god of eastern Egypt.

Sphinx - With a hukan head and the body of a lion, the great Egyptiaan statue is dedicated to the very same figure in Greek mythology.

Tatenen (Ta-tenen, Tatjenen, Tathenen, Tanen, Tenen, Tanenu, Tanuu) - A Memphgis god who was associated with the creation from the primoridal moinds of the earth. 

Taweret (Taueret, Taurt, Thoeris, Thureis, Apet, Aptet, Ipy, Ipey, Opet, Reret, Reret Weret)

Tefen - A god who is a associate of Tefnut.

Tefnut (Tefnet, Tefenet, Tphenis) - The goddess of moisture in Egypt. She consorted with Shu, the air god to create rain and humidity.

Thoth (Thot, Tetu, Techu, Tehuty, Tehuti, Tahuti, Djehuty, Zehuti) - One of the most powerful and heralded gods in Egyptian mythology. Said to have created himself, the created the Universe.]

Tutu - A unique monster god who protected the Egyptian people from demons, ill-willed gods, and later dreams and nightmares.

Un Nefer - A name for either Osiris, Horus or Ra that refers to one of their roles judging and preparing the dead.

Unut (Un, Wenut, Wenet) A rare, rabbit-headed goddess of birth and fertility. She took the form of a snake

Wadj Wer (Wadj-Wer) - A somewhat androgynous god who represents the fertility of water and land, personified by the flooding of the Nile.

Wadjet (Uadjet) - A snake goddess often worshiped along with Bast, she protected pharaohs and pregnant women in cities who worshiped her.

Weneg (Uneg) - A sky and death god who could be invoked via a spell via the Pyramid Texts.

Wepawet (Wepwawet) - A war deity in the form of a wolf. He was first known as a scout, then as one who opeed the way to victory, then to the afterlife.
Wosyet (Waset, Wosret, Wasret, Wosret) A guardian goddess of Thebes.

Profiles of Major Egyptian Gods and Goddess

Ra

Ra is the god of the sun. He is sometimes considered the king of the gods. He has been described as the creator of everything. His siblings are Apep, Thoth, Sobek and Serket. He has 5 children named Shu, Tefnut, Bastet, Ma'at and Hathor. Since he was self-created he has no parents. He became a major god by the Fifth Dynasty in the 25 and 24th centuries BC. Ra appears as a eagle/hawk. Ra has merged with 6 other gods to make Amun-Ra, Atum-Ra, Ra-Horakhty, Khepri, Kknum and Raet-Tawy. Ra has created 3 other gods called Bastet, Sakhmet and Hathor. Ra has made enemies with 3 other gods, Ptah, Isis and Apep.  










Osiris 

Osiris was the former god of of vegetation and fertility until he was killed by his brother Set and resurrected by his sister. He then became the god of the underworld, death, life and resurrecion. His parents are Geb and Nut. Which makes his siblings Isis, Set, Nephthys and Haroeris. He has one child which is Horus. His wife is Isis. Osiris would go around and teach man about farming. Osiris' brother Set got jealous of him so he tricketed him into laying down into a coffin, then Set closed the coffin shut and cut him into peices and hid them all around Egypt. Isis spent years searching for the peices and when she finnaly found them and put her husband together. After that he was the god of the underworld, death, life and resurrction.  









Isis

Isis is the Goddess of  health, marriage, magic, clever, ambitious woman and wisdom. Her parents are Geb and Nut making her siblings Osiris, Set, Nephthys and Haroeris. Her children are Horus, Bastet and possibly Ammit. She tricked Ra into retiring by poisoning him with a magic snake, then encouraging the god to reveal his secret name so Isis could cure him. Once Isis knew Ra's secret name, she could force him to do just about anything. She encouraged him to retreat into the sky opening the throne for Osiris. Isis was patron of magicians.

Horus

God of the sky and kingship Horus was the son of Isis and Osiris. When he growed up he challenged Set and eventually defeated him, becoming the new pharaoh of Egypt. Afterward all mortapharaohshs considred themself descendants of Horus. His children were Imset, Hapi, Duamutef and Qebehsenuef. 















Set

Set is the god of the desert, storms, evil, chaos and foreign wars. Set was very evil, he was the strogest out of the gods. His parents were Geb and Nut. Making his siblings, Osiris, Isis, Nephthys and Haroeris. He had one son which was Anubis. He became the pharaoh of Egypt after killing his brother Osiris (Read Osiris for more Informartion) but he was later overthrowen by his nephew Horus. Set usually appears with red skin an the head of an unkown animal demon.












Geb and Nut

Geb is the earth god and Nut is the Sky Goddess. Geb appears as a manwith rivers, trees and forests all over his body. Nut was Geb's wife.She appears as a woman with dark blue skin covered in constellations. She is often pictured over Geb like how the sky stretches over the earth. Together they had 5 children, Osiris, Isis, Set, Nephtys and Horus. 






Nephthys

Nephthys is the goddess of rivers, death, service, lamentation and nighttime. Her parents are Geb and Nut making her siblings Isis, Osiris, Haroeris and Set. Her wife was Set and they had one son which was Anubis. Nephthys dosen't like her husband very much after he killed Osiris. She helped Isis collect all of his peices and bind them together. Nephthys was gentle and kind person.











Shu

Shu was a important god. His parents were Ra and Iusaaset. His siblings were Tefnut, Hathor, Sekhmet. He had a daughter and son with Tefnut called Nut and Geb. He was important because he kept Nut and Geb apart. That made him become the god of wind and air. He often is seen in pictures of Nut and Geb because he is invisable like the wind.














Anubis

Anubis is the god of funerals and one of the most Important gods because he helped prepare the soul for Afterlife and escorted the dead to the hall of judgement. His parents were Nepthys and Osiris. he had to children with Anput which were Kebechet and Ammut. His sacred aniomal were jackals because the egyptians thought they were because they always hanged around graveyards. Anubis helped Osiris into the first mummy. Anubis is usually he appears as a man with a jackals head.












Sobek

Sobel was the god of crocodiles. He was both feared and respected. Crocodiles were strong creatures. His parents were Set/Khnum and Neith. He had 5 children called Apep, Ra, Thoth, Serket and Hathor. He had a city named after crocodiles called Crocodilopolis. Sobek was seen as a crocodile-headed man. His sweat was said to have created the rivers of the world.














Bast

Bast or Bastet is the goddess of cats, protection, joy, dance, music, family and love. Her symbols were the Lion, cat and the sistrum. Her parents were Ra and Isis which makes her siblings Tefnut, Shu, Serqet, Hathor, Horus, Sekhmet, Anhur, Ammutand Thoth. Cats were extremly popular in Egypt because the can kill snakes and scorpions and other nasty creatures.  Bast was a protective goddess and people with wear amulets with her likeness for good luck.  Her children were Khonsu, Nefertem and Maahes.












Khonsu

Khonsu is the moon god. He liked to gamble a lot. One day he lost five days of moonlight to the sky goddess Nut in a game of senet, this allowed her to have her five children with Geb. His parents are Amun//Ra and Mut/Hathor. Making his siblings Maat, Apis, Tefnut, Sekhmet, Bast and Shu. He has no children.














Taweret

Taweret is the goddess of hippos. The Egyptians were scared of male hippos they saw this goddess as a protector. She looked after pregnant woman and scared of evil spirits.
